DuPage PADS' Drive for 195

The Race to End Homelssness

If you know anything about Bill Styczynski, you probably know one of two things.

1. He is an architect and the president of Studio 21 Architects.
2. Bill is an avid car racer.

In the Studio Pages newsletter, we have a natural bias toward the former fact, but his racing does have the opportunity to take center stage every so often, this issue being one of those occasions! Every summer, DuPage PADS puts on an endurance karting event, Drive for 155. For sixteen years, this race has been an integral fundraising opportunity for the PADS organization, so they can continue to provide interim and permanent housing for those experiencing homelessness in DuPage County.

Homelessness is not a moral failing, but a cycle that one can find themselves in through no fault of their own. Losing a job, a car breaking down, or a health crisis can all become the catalyst to a person becoming unhoused. At DuPage PADS, providing housing is the first step; they also provide support for health and employment, among other things to help a person break the cycle. Last year, PADS served 1,221 individuals in DuPage County. Among those people, about one third of them were children—mostly under the age of five years old—and another third were seniors. And in a circumstance that is all too common with those experiencing homelessness, 283 people were survivors of domestic violence.

Their annual Drive for 155 karting race has the goal in the name: to raise 155,000 dollars to continue their crucial work
for the community. This is the sixth year that Studio21 Architects will be racing, and I am happy to report that after a successful surgery recovery, Bill will be back in the driver’s seat for this year’s race! Alongside the Studio21 Racing Team, we have some friendly competition coming from inside the office. Our firm’s drafter, Beck, is heading up his own team, aptly called the Revit Rhinos, with the goal of hopefully giving Bill a run for his money.

The race will be held on Saturday, July 18th, at the Autobahn Karting Track in Joliet. Between now and the race, we will be fundraising for both teams. If you would like to make a donation on behalf of either team, we wholeheartedly appreciate it, as this is all for an amazing cause. And just to make things more interesting, the team with the most donations gets a very helpful advantage in the race itself, so who would YOU like to see win the race?

You can make a donation to either team at the buttons below!
