Welcome to the Studio, Beck!

The days have been getting longer, the sun is shining, and the cicadas have emerged to scream their screams [Editor’s Note: to date, cicadas have officially stopped screaming.]. Summertime comes around every year, and like the predictability of the seasons, we are back again—right on cue—with another Welcome to the Studio! Surprise, surprise! Our team has been steadily growing over the years, to accommodate more projects and to ensure that we have enough team support to aid our clients at the level which they deserve. Earlier this year, we welcomed another new addition to the design side of the Studio 21 Architects team: Architectural Drafter, Beck!
Beck has joined our firm as he pursues his Master of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago; he is halfway through the program and plans to take the Architect Registration Exam (A.R.E.) to gain licensure in the field. He cites his motivation as, “Getting licensed, to me, is a way to open more opportunities within the field I chose to pursue; that, and the general pursuit of learning more”. Aside from his educational endeavors, Beck has professional experience in drafting and schematic renderings, specifically in the Design+Build side of the industry. His background makes him a fantastic match for our firm as we center our focus on the transition to Revit for drafting, and as we expand upon our architect-led Design+Build service.

At Studio21 Architects, Beck’s role as an Architectural Drafter is multifaceted. He is involved with our projects from the very start, especially during our Design Discovery Review process, by conducting site dimensioning and iGuide scans to replicate existing conditions. Scanning houses is also what Beck considers to be his favorite responsibility in this role; from a technical point of view, he finds it fascinating that with the iGuide scanner, we can accurately recreate a home’s floorplan in just a matter of hours, and from the client-centric perspective, he appreciates how these scans bring further clarity to our clients’ visions. After the initial phase of work, Beck also helps our architects during the design phase by drawing plans,
sections, and elevations, and in the documentation phase, where he drafts schematic documents necessary for permit submittals.

While he’s only been here a few months, Beck is a quick study, and with a myriad of drafting and drafting-adjacent responsibilities, he’s had a chance to integrate himself into the Studio21 Architects team and our client-focused process. In a welcome twist—especially for Bill—Beck has also integrated outside of the office by heading the second team for DuPage PADS’ Drive for 155 charity kart race. By the time this issue of Studio Pages goes to print, Beck and his team, S21+1, will be off to the races alongside Bill’s Studio21 Architects Racing team (and don’t worry, we will be sure to provide an update on the race results as Beck proves his mettle!).

With a team that is consistently growing, we do feel lucky to have great additions to the Studio21 Architects office time after time. We can say with certainty that we predict Beck to be an asset on the architectural side of things,

as well as a great representative of Studio21 Architects, both with our clients and on the racetrack. Welcome to the studio, Beck!
